The Barrel Boys are a Canadian bluegrass powerhouse featuring rich 3 and 4 part vocal harmonies, flashy instrumental picking, and a fun, down-to-earth stage presence. Their music draws from the deep wells of traditional bluegrass and Appalachian old-time, but what sets them apart is their heartfelt songwriting and storytelling.
Established in 2012, The Barrel Boys are a four-piece acoustic string band based in Ontario, Canada, featuring fiddle, banjo, guitar, and bass. The band’s sound is built around rich vocal harmonies and virtuosic instrumental playing, and their unique repertoire of original songs is informed by their fluency in classic bluegrass, old-time, country, and roots music. Each band member writes and sings their own songs, making for a wide stylistic range within the band’s sound.
In addition to being creative songwriters, The Barrel Boys are also seasoned performers. All four members crowd around a single vocal mic, making for a beautiful vocal blend and a dynamic stage performance. The group first honed its craft through a two-year residency at Toronto’s Cloak and Dagger Pub, where they performed every Tuesday night. Since these humble beginnings, they have been featured in concert series and festival main stages across Canada.
The Barrel Boys’ 2025 release “Chicken in the Window” is their fourth full-length album of original material. The album has earned the band nominations in two categories at the 2026 Canadian Folk Music Awards: “Vocal Group of the Year” and “Traditional Album of the Year”
