Renée Coughlin @ Old Church Theatre

Equal parts tender and untamed, Renée Coughlin’s songwriting and performance traces the strange beauty of being human – hope firmly rooted next to grief, love next to longing. After nearly a decade of touring internationally with acclaimed indie-folk trio, The Pairs, Renée has begun to develop her career as a solo artist as well. Leaning further into heartfelt storytelling, Renée’s music lands somewhere between confession and campfire mythology. With an honesty that can quiet a room, Renée’s lyrics, melodies and performances create a world that is beautifully open and unresolved.

Renée is a vocalist, singer, and songwriter whose work centres music as a listening practice and a vehicle for embodied expression.   Through singing, writing, and movement, she explores attunement—to self, to others, and to the felt experience of being alive. She believes that attuning to our bodies and voices opens a deeper respect for life, both human and more-than-human, and this understanding shapes her work.      Touring internationally, Renée performs her original music and facilitates workshops with people of all ages, offering playful ways to reconnect with the music held within the body. She also supports the creative expression of others through one on one or group writing sessions.  A self-described harmony junkie, Renee is captivated by the resonance of voices singing together—for her, present listening is integral to the practice of singing and foundational to collective expression.     As a celebrated and award winning song-writer, most of Renée’s artistic experience and achievements exists within the harmonizing folk trio, The Pairs. The group has recorded three studio albums, continues to tour internationally, and is always finding new and innovative ways to employ music as a way to cultivate more meaningful relationships among humans.   Sensitive and spunky, Renée’s witty banter and heartfelt storytelling are perfect companions to her dynamic songwriting and musical performance. Her debut album is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2026.
