Maggie’s Wake is a Canadian contemporary folk group redefining what traditional music can be. Among other accomplishments, they are the winner of the 2025 Canadian Folk Music Award for New/Emerging Artist as well as the NERFA Songwriting Award for their crowd favourite, “Bridget O’Brien” and they have been invited to perform in Belfast, Ireland at the 2026 “Your Roots Are Showing” music conference.
Blending the drive of classic country, the spirit of Celtic reels and jigs, the heat of Cajun twin fiddles, and the groove of world rhythms, Maggie’s Wake crafts a sound that is both deeply
rooted and strikingly original. Their music is an exhilarating, genre-crossing journey that continues to evolve while staying firmly connected to its roots.
Fronted by award-winning songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Tara Dunphy (The Rizdales, Luther Wright and the Wrongs) on tin whistle, flute, fiddle, and lead vocals, and renowned fiddler,
composer, and author Lindsay Schindler (Rant Maggie Rant, Trent Severn) on violin and harmony vocals, Maggie’s Wake brings exceptional artistry and presence to every performance.
The powerhouse backing band features Andrew Kosty on bass and Kenneth Palmer on guitar, completing an ensemble known for its chemistry, energy, and musical depth.
Guided by the spirit of Dale Watson’s words, “You can’t grow if you rip your roots out of the ground,” Maggie’s Wake honours tradition while boldly forging its own path in contemporary roots music.
