Bill Wood & Burke Carroll
940 Bonisteel Rd
Bill Wood’s songs have been described as “what happens when 30 years of songwriting, honed over decades of hard life experiences, meet the craftsmanship of a career musician who doesn’t know what it means to compromise.” Paired with the sweet sounds of Burke Carroll’s pedal steel and resophonic guitars, these songs take on the aura of old favourites with a brand-new feel.
Bill & Burke perform original songs that range from heartbreaking ballads to classic country shuffle. You’ll swear you’ve heard those songs before.
Bill Wood
Bill is the songwriter and front man for Bill Wood and The Woodies, a respected roots rock band on the Southern Ontario circuit.
An industry veteran singer-songwriter and former lead vocalist for Juno-nominees EyeEye, Wood became disillusioned with the music industry’s “star maker machinery,” and stepped away from recording and performing in the early 90s to focus on raising his family and making a living. His experiences as a home renovator, woodworker and both employment and volunteer work with marginalized people have informed and infiltrated his songs. Wood has also had his struggles with addiction. But even while deeply immersed in a life of real-world troubles and triumphs, he’s been writing songs, performing and recording. Those experiences and a lifetime of songwriting discipline are audible in the depth and power of Bill’s original music. Even the newest songs often have the feel of a classic.
Bill has recently moved to Prince Edward County where he is quickly becoming a familiar voice at local venues and on the airwaves.
Bill’s most recent releases include the Bill Wood and The Woodies disc, Mumbo Jumbo Tumbo and 2018’s Cardinal, featuring the Wood Family Singers. He is currently recording a new Woodies album— next up is the first Bill & Burke album.
“Some singers, like Nick Lowe and Graham Parker, have the knack of reformatting the punk sneer and growl into something that perfectly fits the roots-rock template of their music. Bill Wood shares this talent.” —Peter Tomkins, R2 Magazine, (UK)
